STATEMENT OF COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY, EQUITY, ACCESSIBILITY, AND INCLUSION

The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science (Frost Science) is committed to implementing our values of integrity, inclusion, and acceptance to create a place for all to appreciate and explore the world of science. Frost Science believes that every individual deserves equitable access to science learning and careers in STEM and is therefore committed to working with partners across South Florida and the world to amplify diverse voices in science and remove barriers to accessing STEM careers.

As a cultural institution deeply embedded within Miami and the larger South Florida community, Frost Science’s mission has always been to serve community needs externally, through programming that engages and enriches diverse voices, and internally, through partnership and hiring practices that reflect the diverse nature of our community. Through programs such as our award-winning Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS) program, our Early Childhood Hands-On Science (ECHOS) preschool curriculum, and our outreach program to historically ignored areas of Miami, Frost Science has contributed cutting-edge research to better meet the needs of underrepresented groups. Additionally, Frost Science has looked to feature diverse voices and people of color in its exhibitions, both permanent and traveling. In 2020, Frost Science established a Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, Inclusion (DEAI) Committee as another step towards creating a more diverse and equitable workplace and community engagement center. Frost Science understands that much work remains to address the challenges facing underrepresented groups.

Frost Science continues to work to advance:

  • Developing programs and partnerships that amplify diverse voices.
  • Investing in collaborative partner efforts from underrepresented communities.
  • Ensuring museum collaborators reflect Frost Science’s commitment to diversity.
  • Prioritizing financial support for field trips, scholarships and paid internships provided to individuals and communities of need.

Together with the diverse voices in our Miami community, Frost Science is committed to removing all barriers to STEM learning and making the museum a more equitable place to understand ourselves and the world.
