Museum Volunteers for the Environment (MUVE) hosts monthly volunteer workdays for anyone who is passionate about restoring Miami’s natural environment, and on Saturday, May 18, we’re inviting our members to join us!

On Saturday, May 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Frost Science members are invited to join MUVE in removing invasive plants at Virginia Key North Point Beach Park on Key Biscayne. Join us for this special workday to get to know your Frost Science community while helping to make a difference in our environment. It’s time to #getmuving!

During the volunteer workday, members will help eradicate invasive plant species from the dune habitat. This crucial effort clears the way for the reintroduction of native plants, such as sea oats, which are vital to the structural integrity and ecological health of beach dunes. Sea oats promote sand dune growth, stabilize the dune, and add natural beauty to our magnificent coastlines.

Capacity is limited and all participants must register by Thursday, May 16. Participants under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Participants under 18 years of age must have signed waiver by parent or legal guardian.

What to Know:

Please wear sun protection and closed-toe shoes. All materials, water, and snacks will be provided. We encourage you to bring your own reusable gloves, reusable water bottle, and download the free CleanSwell app on your smartphone to collect marine debris data during the event.

Directions for Check-In and Parking
For GPS Directions, enter Virginia Key North Point Trails. When arriving, enter Virginia Key Beach Park on Arthur Lamb Road and pass a toll both. Keep right at your first fork in the road, then keep left at the second fork. Follow the road until it ends, and you will see check-in located at the picnic tables.

Safety
The completion of both a Miami-Dade County liability waiver and a Frost Science liability waiver are required to participate in this event. All necessary waivers are included in the registration process. Park staff will provide a safety briefing and orientation to the specific volunteer activities at the start of the event.
