Sharks play a vital role in maintaining the health and balance of our oceans, yet they face growing threats from human activity.
In this special edition of LIVE@Frost Science on Monday, November 23, oceanographer and shark conservationist Ocean Ramsey, recipient of the inaugural 2025 American Friends Explorer Award from the Scientific Exploration Society (SES), will share insights from her extraordinary work studying and communicating with sharks. Ramsey will discuss her efforts to end shark killing and protect these essential marine predators, including her advocacy for a ban on shark fishing in Hawaii’s territorial waters. Her work and unique approach to shark conservation have also been featured in the Netflix documentary, Shark Whisper.
This special event is presented in partnership with the Scientific Exploration Society, an international organization founded in 1969 by renowned explorer John Blashford-Snell, CBE. For more than five decades, SES has supported scientific research, exploration, conservation, and community aid expeditions around the world, bringing together explorers and changemakers to advance discovery and understanding. The establishment of its American Friends group reflects the longstanding involvement of American participants in the Society’s global work.
