Who We Are:
Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS) at Frost Science is a federally funded TRIO program from the Department of Education. UBMS provides college access and alternative Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education to students who are considered high-risk in the Miami area. The UBMS program aims to increase students’ abilities to complete post-secondary education programs and pursue careers in the STEM fields through programmatic initiatives.
UBMS gives students access to mentors, technology, and individualized interaction with scientists to equip them for a future in STEM.
Our Summer program, IMPACT (Integrated Marine Program and College Training) allows students to delve into marine science through activities such as shark tagging with the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science.
What We Do:
UBMS identifies teens from target schools in Miami-Dade County and engages them in the world of post-secondary study. We inspire and equip students to complete high school and be the first members of their family to enroll in college.
We empower students to engage in career and education pathways toward science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers.
How We Do It:
College Readiness
Students receive ACT and SAT test-taking skills instruction and college application assistance. Students are also provided with scholarship opportunities.
Hands-On Learning
Students develop practical STEM skills through hands-on experiences focusing on marine biology, research, and other related scientific disciplines.
Academic Support
Our mentorship team provides academic support and advising through our structured weekly academy sessions.
