MyFi Studio is an artist duo building instruments and computer systems for creating art and music in real time. From Miami to Tokyo to Seoul, MyFi Studio performs and shares their custom electronic instruments with the public on the internet and with programming in museums, film festivals, galleries and clubs. MyFi Studio is a 2025 Ellies Creator Award Winner, and will be screening their new video project, “tie the knot: the twilight years that connect us” at the FilmFest Akizuki in Japan in September. MyFi will also perform a new immersive experience, “Look Over Here,” for the first time in the Frost Planetarium as part of nightLAB: Beyond the Algorithm on July 17. MyFi Studio is co-founded by Aimee Rubensteen and Dr. Josh Eisenberg in Miami.
You can play MyFi instruments anytime, anywhere on a laptop connected to the internet. The Bass Museum of Art in Miami commissioned MyFi Studio to create a new instrument inspired by Nam June Paik’s Internet Dweller (1994). Nam June Paik imagined a world where people live on the internet. 30 years later, MyFi Studio created in real time (2024), a collection of audiovisual samplers generated by code, written in p5.js, and stored on Ethereum. MyFi Studio distributed 404 instruments to the public and used the instruments to perform music and analog glitch video art six times over six weeks in Miami, Japan, Seoul and online.
In February 2023, MyFi Studio debuted at #4 on Billboard’s Biggest Music NFT chart when they sold out their first two collections of instruments. This was the first time a code-based electronic music instrument was on the Billboard chart. Later that year, the duo performed “Electric Rice Field” for Nam June Paik: The Miami Years exhibition at The Bass. MyFi also produced “Homage to Nam June Paik (Electric Fish): Performance Instructions,” an interactive NFT collection for the public to control the live performance with instructions sent via blockchain. MyFi, short for Mycelium Fidelity, draws its name from the communication and tools embedded in mycelium networks and computer systems.
