For over a decade, Dr. Stephen Kajiura’s team has tracked Florida sharks with airplanes, drones, and other technology. Join us to discover what they have learned about these magnificent animals.
Each winter, blacktip sharks aggregate by the thousands in nearshore waters of southeast Florida. In this LIVE@Frost Science on Wednesday, March 13, you will investigate the lives of migrating sharks and learn the facts about how we can coexist with these ancient animals, despite what you may see in the newspaper or on social media. For over a decade, Dr. Stephen Kajiura and his team have employed aerial surveys with airplanes and drones, acoustic and satellite telemetry, underwater video monitoring, and animal-borne data loggers to watch them. Their goal? To uncover what these sharks do and where they go as they overwinter along our coast and migrate up the eastern seaboard.
Admission is complimentary. Tickets are limited to four per transaction. Program will take place inside the Frost Planetarium.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Program starts promptly at 7:00 p.m. Seating is first-come, first-served. Food and beverage will be available for purchase prior to the event.
Please note registration to the event does not include museum admission. Museum exhibitions close at 6:00 p.m.
Dr. Stephen Kajiura
Dr. Stephen Kajiura is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Florida Atlantic University. He received his PhD in Zoology from the University of Hawaii, a MS in Marine Biology from the Florida Institute of Technology, and a BSc (Hons) in Marine Biology from the University of Guelph (Canada).
