Southern Stingray (Dasyatis Americana) Hiding in the Sand, Caño Island, Costa Rica

Located on the Vista level, the Florida Bay Touch Experience lets you meet and pet the stingrays that thrive in Florida’s shallow backwaters.

The kid-friendly, easy-to-reach pool allows cownose rays, Atlantic rays and southern rays to swim up to edge of the glass where guests can experience their fascinating skin texture, and come to understand how their anatomy helps them find food such as crabs, shrimp and other invertebrates among sea grass and mud. The exhibit also explores the many ways bays help the entire ocean system stay healthy.

Touchy Feely

Cownose rays use flexible fin lobes in front of their mouths to probe the seafloor for prey, then dig by flapping their pectoral fins.
