December 15: Winter Wonderland
Join us as we celebrate the holidays with our very own scientific spin on a Winter Wonderland.
Chill out with our Let It Snow! LIVE show that explores physical changes that occur when you freeze everyday objects with liquid nitrogen (a frosty -321°F) then create your own simulated snow! Participate in a hands-on blubber glove experiment and feel what it’s like to travel beneath the surface like some of our favorite winter animals. You’ll also be able to create, then race, mini-bobsleds in a special Freezing Physics edition of our Design Lab: Engineering workshop. Behold the beauty and wonder of nature’s very own holiday light show as learn more about unique sea creatures in our traveling exhibition, Creatures of Light: Nature’s Bioluminescence, then meet the scientists who study deep sea shrimp at the Bracken-Grissom CRUSTOMICS Lab at Florida International University. Afterwards, explore our climatic connection to the poles with a special demonstration from scientists at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School for Marine and Atmospheric Science.
Schedule of Events
Mini-Me Science: Frosty Flurries
10:30 a.m., Knight Learning Center, Level 5
Mini-Me Science is Frost Science’s newest program designed for you and your little one (children ages four and younger). program designed for you and your little one (children ages four and younger). Today’s activity: create a snowflake that’s one-of-a-kind just like your little one while learning about different states of matter and the secret role that ice plays in weather! Paid registration is required. If interested, please inquire at Member and Guest Services or visit frostscience.org/minime.
